Jack Jennings Memorial

January 2013

Chris_Meyers_And_Jack_Jennings.JPGCentral Alberta woman, Christine Meyers, was moved by the compassionate care that her father, Jack Jennings, received at the Rocky Mountain House Health Centre throughout his final five years. She recently engaged David Thompson Health Trust to assist her in memorializing her father, while at the same time expressing her gratitude to his compassionate caregiver, Dr. Andre VanZyl, in a meaningful and impactful way.

Jack Jennings was in and out of the Rocky Hospital several times during the last five years of his life before being relocated to the Red Deer Regional Hospital, where he peacefully passed away on October 26, 2010.

Jack held Dr. VanZyl in the highest regard and came to consider him a true friend.  “He always had my father’s best interests in mind.  He always stood beside him, behind him, and up to him, and my dad respected him for that” said Chris. “There were many challenges in the last years of dad’s life, and Dr. VanZyl treated both my dad and myself with respect, courtesy and genuine care. “

Dr__Van_Zyl_and_Jack_Jennings_March_2010.JPGIn December of 2012, Chris Meyers generously donated $10,000 in memory of her father, Jack Jennings. Her wish was to give back to the Rocky Mountain House Health Centre, enabling them to purchase equipment that would continue to make a difference in the compassionate care this facility provides.  In consultation with Rocky Site Manager, Shirley Hope, it was decided that these donated funds would be directed towards the ‘It’s Your Move’ campaign, an initiative to equip the Rocky facility with patient lifts on a ceiling track system, thus providing a much less stressful healing environment for the patients.

In January of 2013, Chris once again stepped up, donating an additional $10,000 towards this campaign.  This time her focus was to say Thank You and to honor Dr. Andre VanZyl.  She wished to thank him for recognizing the deep care, concern and dedication she had for her father, and for treating him with the utmost care and dignity.
